Meerlo Lavender - A Perfect Drought Tolerant Plant

Meerlo Lavender - A Perfect Drought Tolerant Plant

Meerlo Lavender (Lavandula allardii ‘Meerlo’) is getting to be one of our favorite plants.

This variegated leaf lavender is such a hardy shrub that can withstand extreme heat and humid conditions. Its flowers are similar to French lavender and blooms though the summer. It is also a low water use plant, which is an especially sought after quality in many California regions that are apt to drought conditions.

Their maximum size is approximately 3’ in height and spread/width, which makes them very versatile to add to almost any garden, although I’ve planted some Meerlo Lavender that have maxed out closer to 4’ in width.

In terms of landscape design, you can add them into your garden as a massing or individually to create a focal point.

They are highly fragrant, evergreens that can handle full sun and tolerate partial shade. Add in the fact that they have a fast growth rate and it all combines to make these plants close to perfect!
