Fairchild Residence

For this El Dorado Hills project the clients wanted their backyard to be part oasis, part playground. I sited the pergola to maintain a strong visual connection with the house, creating a defined family gathering space for relaxing, dining and casual entertaining. An adjacent synthetic turf zone provides an open play area for the kids, with a putting green and even a zip line integrated into the layout. I advocated to preserve the large rock outcrop and designed the hot tub deck to embrace it, cutting each deck board precisely to trace the rock’s profile. A home office studio opens onto the deck, and steps lead down to an additional patio, creating a sequence of indoor–outdoor spaces for work, play and rest.
